Lana graduated from Northwestern School of Law at Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon in 1993. From 1992 to 1997, Lana worked for the Oregon Supreme Court first as an intern, and then as an attorney. From 1997 to 1999, Lana and her family lived in Hong Kong, China. During that time abroad, Lana assisted foreign domestic workers who faced deportation hearings.
In 1999, Lana and her family returned to Oregon when one of her three sons was diagnosed with a disability and in need of special education services not available abroad. During that time, Lana realized the special education process was extremely complex and difficult. That experience fostered a lasting desire to help children with special needs and their families travel through the special education maze.
Lana is licensed to practice law in the states of Oregon, Washington and California. Lana is admitted to practice in the United States District Court for the District of Oregon and the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
Currently, Lana's law practice focuses exclusively on representing children with educational issues. Most of her law practice is representing children with special needs, but the law practice is always evolving to meet client’s needs. Lana currently represents children with any education issue - from students with special needs to regular education students with disciplinary issues, and anything in-between!
In 1999, Lana had the good fortune to meet another attorney who represented children with special needs, Diane Wiscarson. They shared the same philosophy, “The child is the client.” After much discussion, a new law practice model was born! Lana and Diane maintain separate law firms that focus solely on representing students with education issues. However, they handle all of their cases together, which means that the client gets the benefit and flexibility of two attorneys for one hourly rate.
Lana and Diane’s goal is to improve each student's educational experience, and to ensure that each student receives the education they are entitled to under federal and state laws.
